Sunday, October 30, 2011

It is late. My head is kinda itchy. Let's keep this short and sweet.

This week is fairly tame, but picks up in the middle and again at the end with Rocky!

There are a few events on Wednesday that you should pop in at. They include:

1) GENDERF*$K FILM FEST: SCREENING AND Q&A WITH FILMMAKER BARBARA HAMMER

Queer film legend Barbara Hammer, often referred to as the Mother of Lesbian Cinema, will be joining us live in person for an evening of film and conversation.

5:30 a private workshop with Barbara Hammer (rsvp to Andy)
7 pm - Hammer Speaks + Q&A
9 pm - Screening + Q&A

Barbara Hammer will be at hand to sign her biography, Hammer! Making Movies Out of Life and Sex (Feminist Press of CUNY, 2010). The book will be available at the Purchase College Bookstore no later than Tuesday, Nov. 1

All events are free and food will be served!

Brought to you by TransAction, GPC and Film and Media Studies

RSVP on Facebook here

2) LIT SOCIETY OPEN MIC

Stop by Whitson's (in the Student Center) on Wednesday at 8PM to sign up and take in all the words that glide your way. Do I sound like a burnout? I'm not.

3) A SHOW AT THE CO-OP FEATURING: NICHOLAS FRANCIS, WOOD SPIDER

Wednesday, November 2nd - 8:30 PM @ The Co-Op

Home Body - Electronic pop due on tour from the Pioneer Valley!

2. What's coming up after that

-So the next few weeks are going to be consumed in Fall Fest/Halloween culture presumably. We have a potential thing in the works for next Friday, 10/28 (Fall Fest Eve) but it is so unsure that I'm not going to write about it here.

-However, on 10/27 there is going to be a BUTT TON (that could just be the word 'button' mispelled) of stuff happening in the Stood. Think Skalloween (thanks WPSR!), Costume Making (thanks Art Co-Op!), PUMPKIN CARVING/HOT CIDER (thanks Stood!), FALL FEST WRISTBAND DISTRIBUTION (thanks Major Events!) and a RECORD FAIR (thanks self!)!! It's going to be a Thursday to remember. As far as the Record Fair goes, we're going to have 2-3 vendors there and are opening the rest of the vendor space to YOU GUYS! So if you have any records/misc stuff you'd like to get rid of, this is the place. It's going to be fairly casual (if you have a box of stuff, just bring it the night-of) but if you know enough in advance that you're going to be interested in doing this, please just shoot us a quick e-mail at purchaseeventsbrigade[at]gmail[dot]com. Again, that's Thursday, October 27th.

-Fall Fest is next Saturday (10/29)! Doesn't look like there's a Facebook event for it, but we'll post about that again next week. Janka Nabay and Fang Island are headlining. Should be a radical time.

-Uhhh

-OH YEAH COVER SHOW! So the date for the Cover Show is November 19th, 2011. That's a Saturday. That's one week after my birthday. It's also exactly a MONTH from tomorrow! We'll cut off the amount of bands at 7-8 acts, first come first serve, so if you're planning on participating please e-mail us at PURCHASEEVENTSBRIGADE[AT]GMAIL[DOT]COM ASAP.

-Also mark NOVEMBER 11TH (I am NOT doing this in any kind of chronological order. Sorry.) on your calendars or whatever you use to keep time. That is going to be the date of Roller Disco/Night of 100 Pizzas. 100 PIZZAS, WE'RE TELLIN' YA!

-As always, please keep writing on our Facebook group wall, e-mailing us, checking out this blog and bothering us about all of your wonderful ideas. Even if Dave or I seem stressed, you are completely crucial to the process.

3. Committee Stuff

On that note, remember that we have a committee! It is a great way to meet with us in person in case we have been shitty about getting back to you. Just another outlet through which to get in touch with us. Our next committee meeting is:

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20TH @ 9PM in the SToOOooOOOD

We'd love to see you there!

4. Footage/photos from some events.

Alright, there's a lot here. Let's start with...

SEPTEMBER 23RD, 2011 - SECRET SHOW
FEATURING:
DAN DEACON
ED SCHRADER'S MUSIC BEAT

It was a secret show. Everybody assembled in front of Student Services and were subsequently led on a wild goose chase around campus by our favorite imp/Riot Police hybrid, Raymond Chalme.

Another favorite video of mine by Dave Grimaldi:

Everyone filtering into the gym:

Here are some great photos taken by Riley Kennysmith.

Here's a video of everyone looking awesome:

And some more from David Grimaldi!

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6TH - LVL UP CASSETTE RELEASE
